Le Guilvinec, Festival L’Homme et la Mer

Preview

Guilvinec or “the Guil ” is at first the name of a small fishing port. Every year, this southern Finistère city hosts the photo festival L’Homme et la Mer. The sixth edition opened in early June and accompanies summer visitors through late September.

A team of volunteers, political figures and other actors gather around Michel Guirriec – its director, former professor of philosophy and a photography lover –usually selects ten photo essays. Away from the picturesque and romantic imagery of travel, this low-budget festival managed to integrate into the urban landscape exhibitions themes that revolve around  man’s relationship to fishing, its consequences and its issues: socio-economical, environmental, human, etc. A series of aspects revealed in the subjects of different photographers, namely Jean-Paul Mathelier, Jean-Marc Balsière Pierre Torset, Teddy Seguin, Xavier Desmier.
