From three to twelve

This story is dedicated to my father: for 40 years he lived in two houses – in Russia and the USA. He migrated when he was very young, received US citizenship and was practically unable to return to Russia (due to legal, political and other circumstances). At the end of his life, he became seriously ill and was forced to live on the streets of New York, receiving treatment as a homeless person, while having a house and family in St. Petersburg.

Since Dad was a trucker, the main motive of this project is the road, and the visual form is a collage. The name of the project is associated with the 12 days it took to repatriate the father’s body across the ocean.

In my opinion, this is a project about what the motherland is (and what happens to people if the Motherland is cruel), what family is and what fate is. I tried to realize Dad’s death by recreating a picture of his life and death. I tried to find a place in it for myself, for my family, for other people in general, but it turned out that this story can only be about a small person in a big world. About his search, his path and endless, irresistible loneliness.
