The exhibition “Japonismes” by photographer Alain Combier will be on display for two months in Paris, first at the Galerie de Bazillac, then at the Bibliothèque St. Simon
A native of southern France, Alain Combier has always been interested in photography. Equipped with his first film camera, he traveled across the plains and mountains of his native region, drawing inspiration from the light of the Mediterranean landscapes and the rugged beauty of the Pyrenees. Very early on, he joined a local photographers’ association. His early black-and-white works were featured in his first Paris exhibition, titled “Alma Mater,” in 2025.
His engineering studies and a career in industry took him, for more than forty years, from Paris to Montreal, then to Madrid and Tokyo. But throughout all those years, he never lost his passion for photography. Each of his trips and stays abroad provided an opportunity to enrich his portfolios, with a particular fondness for landscapes.
Now based in Paris and with more free time, he continues to deepen the passion he’s had since his youth. This new exhibition allows him to present works drawn from his collection of photographs taken in Japan, a country where he lived from 2016 to 2019 and for which he has developed a genuine affection.
His photographic work focuses on atmospheres rather than events. His perspective is marked by serenity and contemplation, attentive to details and moods rather than the spectacular. Through natural light, minimalist compositions, and fleeting moments, Alain Combier creates images that reflect the authenticity and poetry of the Land of the Rising Sun.
