The Photographic Project The Rhythmic Ghosts: When Photography Looks to Impressionist Painting
For years I have observed rhythmic gymnastics—a discipline that combines grace, precision, and speed—often rendered through perfect, sharp images capable of capturing the fleeting moment.
For The Rhythmic Ghosts project, I chose a different approach: pursuing instead the continuity of gesture, the trajectory of the body through space. Perhaps guided by the image of the “girl running on the balcony” from the Futurist period.
ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) emerged as the defining language: it does not freeze a single instant, but constructs images through the layering of luminous trajectories, leading to unpredictable results. Above all, it reveals what the eye perceives yet the rational mind tends to discard—an evanescent, almost spectral presence.
It is precisely within this poetic blur that a temporal threshold seems to open, from which the ineffable figures of The Rhythmic Ghosts emerge.
