Every week, L’Oeil de la Photographie presents the radio program Regardez voir, produced by Brigitte Patient on France Inter. Meeting with Brigitte Enguérand.
After studying literature, Brigitte Enguérand started photography to work in journalism. While in Avignon in the early 1970s, she fell in love with the festival and began selling pictures of it to the press. Back in Paris, she founded a photo agency with her partner at the time, the photographer Marc Enguérand, and they went on to photographs the likes of Vitez, Claude Régy, Jean-Louis Barrault, Samuel Beckett, Laurent Pelly, Sivadier, Didier Bezace, Jean-Pierre Vincent, Jacques Lassalle, Vassiliev, Lev Dodine and many others. She is fan of the work of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and William Klein, as well as the painters Soulages and Matisse. “I like to play with light, shapes and colors,” she says. “And that state of availability when a photograph happens. It’s like magic.”
