Paul Lukin

Shadows of Solitude: a melody of light and shadow

The project is a a series of black and white photographs that are both beautiful and thought-provoking, candid and dreamlike. Images are often grainy, dark, and mysterious; Lukin’s work has often been described as an outward expression of an inner self. Lukin captures candid, fleeting, dreamlike moments in the streets of Bangkok. His open-ended narratives of solitary figures offer a glimpse into a world that depicts a sense of loneliness and isolation.

In his captivating monochromatic series, that have earned him permanent homes in prestigious institutions and collections around the world. He offers a visual narrative, provoking contemplation and fostering a dialogue about the complexities of human connection and the yearning for companionship in an increasingly isolating world. The interplay of light and shadow becomes a prominent element throughout the series, symbolizing the complex duality of loneliness, that takes us on a journey through a world of contradictions, between light and dark, dream and reality.
