Paris Photo 2023 : An unmissable event by Carole Schmitz

Preview

Every year, photography’s intelligentsia gather at the Grand Palais Éphémère for Paris-Photo. Confirmed artists and new talents from the two hundred galleries present rub shoulders with collectors and art lovers.

It’s a great opportunity to discover historical and contemporary nuggets, but also to get a feel for current trends, decipher what’s being done in photography and perhaps find the image that will catch your eye!

It’s also an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with artists such as Ellen von Unwerth, Yann Arthus Bertrand, Omar Victor Diop, Sacha Goldberger and Jean-Daniel and Nikola Lorieux, to name but a few.

A new feature at this year’s show was a special focus on digital art.

With its play on the eye, surprising techniques, poetic and zany images, as well as provocative and sometimes disturbing ones, Paris Photo focuses on the feminine, the digital and the unexpected.

This new edition was also an opportunity to see (or revisit) the work of actress and photographer Jessica Lange, whose “Highway 61” series was exhibited by Galerie Alta at the Andorran Embassy in Paris. She returns to the road she used to take every day as a child before leaving her native region for Hollywood. Her images invite us on a journey as solitary as it is intimate.

To sum up, here are a few images that caught my eye…
