He gave us this text about himself.
Two weeks, two châteaux, and one black backdrop. These images are rooted in my past working in fashion during the 1990s. I was born into the industry: my mother was a model and my father, Terence Donovan’s producer — Donovan being one of the most influential photographers of the 1960s. Leaving school early, I went on to assist some truly talented photographers who still influence me today. The days of shooting film and printing in my own darkroom remain part of my DNA, combined with a desire to revisit a time when models were celebrities and nudity was normalised.
I’ve always enjoyed juxtaposition in my photography. That’s why I travelled to France with stands and a black backdrop, setting them against the splendour of two magnificent châteaux. The temperamental May weather brought soft, flattering light, creating the illusion of an outdoor studio. The result: a stage where beautiful people could simply be themselves, unbothered by the grandeur around them.
