A photo report that makes you smile with pleasure: rare, isn’t it?

“Des vies, des objets”, a project by photographer Jean Larive, will be shown at the University of Nanterre (Weber Building) until April 6. Portraits of sellers/buyers of a shop of decorative objects meet there. occasion of the Cité Floréal in Saint-Denis (93). This series was produced with the social geographer Léa Billen, in partnership with the University of Nanterre and the research-creation program Tryspaces. She wrote this:

Between two strollers, a bedside table and a clothes rack, a whole crate of cell phones and chargers waits to be searched. On the sidewalk are unpacked the most attractive items, such as bicycles or new objects. Inside, gathered in separate spaces, clothes, crockery, household appliances, children’s games or books compete for the favors of a mainly female clientele. It is here, at the foot of one of the towers of the Cité Floréal, that the Régie de quartier de Saint-Denis opened 4 years ago Au bon débarras, an associative space for the purchase and sale of household goods. ‘occasion. Open two afternoons a week, all generations and all nationalities meet there, bringing an object, looking for a good deal, often for less than 5 euros. And if you come there to hunt, you linger there to chat. Because Au bon débarras is above all a space for living and socializing, where it is not uncommon to see a former client sign an integration contract with the Régie.

Photographic part of a research/creation work carried out with the social geographer Léa Billen (University of Nanterre) and with the support of the Tryspaces program, the portraits were produced over four weeks. We wanted to observe how such a place brings together so many destinies and stories, whether people or objects. From the start, the idea of setting up a basic studio with equipment found on site was essential. After an interview with Léa Billen, each person was invited to pose with an object of their choice. The superpositions then came to reinforce the idea that the place provided, week after week, the “framework” where these exchanges and meetings take place.
