From 20 May to 30 September 2026, photographer Marianne Pubill presents “Ce qui nous traverse” at T-Kawa (Paris 13th arrondissement). An intimate visual exploration of exile, transmission and family memory, hosted by the community café run by Les Petits Frères des Pauvres.
“Grandma, tell me your story.” It was with this simple phrase that the exhibition Ce qui nous traverse came into being. This documentary project stems from a personal urgency: that of recording her grandmother’s words before it is too late. How does one carry a family history that one has not personally lived through? Having experienced neither the Spanish Civil War nor the flight from Franco’s regime, Marianne Pubill explores this delicate space between distance and kinship. For several months, she listened to her grandmother’s words, photographed her daily life and delved into the archives to prevent time from erasing these memories.
The Thread of Transmission
Through an immersive exhibition design combining contemporary photographs, reimagined archive material and audio testimonies, the personal journey intersects with the broader
story of history. The exhibition highlights the power of intergenerational bonds and the way in which roots are replanted from one era to the next. What Remains explores what endures when memories fade: the objects passed down as witnesses, the glances that meet, and the places that become symbols of our own identity.
Art as a Vehicle for Social Connection at T-Kawa
Exhibiting this work at T-Kawa feels like a natural fit. Run by the Petits Frères des Pauvres charity, this community café is dedicated to combating isolation among the elderly. By displaying her works here, Marianne Pubill takes photography out of traditional galleries and brings it to a place where the voices of the elderly are fully valued, inviting every visitor to reconnect with their own roots.
