Morrison Hotel Gallery New York presents Romance: A Love Letter to The Douglas Kirkland Archive, an intimate exhibition celebrating the enduring photographic legacy of Douglas Kirkland. The exhibition will feature a curated selection of photographs, alongside copies of Kirkland’s celebrated book Romance. This marks the first time Françoise Kirkland will host a public book signing in the United States since the launch of Romance.
Drawn from the Douglas Kirkland Archive, Romance explores the photographer’s singular ability to capture intimacy, vulnerability, and cinematic beauty across decades of work. From his iconic and deeply personal images of Marilyn Monroe—created just months before her death—to portraits and moments that transcend celebrity, Kirkland’s photographs reveal a rare emotional clarity that has defined his influence on photography, film, and visual culture. His work bridges glamour and humanity, offering images that feel both timeless and profoundly alive. Romance debuted internationally in Milan and at Paris Photo in 2025, and this exhibition marks the first presentation of the book in the United States.
The Douglas Kirkland Estate presents, Romance: A Love Letter to The Douglas Kirkland Archive invites audiences to experience the depth and artistry of a photographer whose lens shaped how generations see love, connection, and storytelling. A curated selection of limited-edition works will be on view and available for acquisition throughout the exhibition.
