Los Angeles: Victory Tischler-Blue, Of Beauty and Ruin at Spot Photo Works

Preview

A member of the 1970s all-girl rock band, The Runaways, Victory Tischler-Blue left the band at the age of 19 to pursue a creative life producing and directing television and motion pictures, all the while building an elegant  body of still photographic images. Spot Photo Works, 6679 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, presents her series “Of Beauty and Ruin”.

Tischler-Blue’s landscape photographs capture the beauty of the Southwestern desert and with it the remains of failed dreams under crystalline skies. The fine line between life and ruin shows on the faces of her raw-boned outlier portraits: some androgynous, some damaged but rich with life and as fragile as an empty tank of gas, a well gone dry or a faded love.

“I’m always drawn to wild places as well as the people who inhabit them,” says Tischler-Blue.  “For me, photography is all about intimacy and the element of surprise.  There’s a magic that comes along with things not planned, and being open to it allows for the unscripted to manifest.” Ultimately the endless star-filled skies of the open desert win out in and we as viewers are driven on a road trip full of wonders.
