Health Spaces
‘Health Spaces’ is a photographic series developed in Madrid between 2022 and 2023, initiated in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis. I am a Romanian artist based in Madrid, working with a socially engaged lens-based practice informed by psychogeography. I refer to these works as retratos de ciudades sin gente (portraits of cities without people), where absence becomes a method of observation across geographical diversity.
Through a restrained visual language of façades, signage, and urban fragments, the series isolates and reconfigures the visual codes of “health” embedded in the city. Rather than documenting specific events, the images distill recurring spatial and linguistic patterns, revealing how public space is shaped by systems of care, control, and ideology. In this way, the work reflects on how the pandemic has redefined our perception of collective space, inviting a slower and more critical reading of the environments we inhabit.
