PHOTO Australia will unveil its first collection of Australian photographs at the Rencontres d’Arles festival in July 2025.
PHOTO Australia, producer of the international photography festival PHOTO in Melbourne, is unveiling a unique partnership with the Rencontres d’Arles. Together, they will present the exhibition On Country: Photography from Australia in Arles, France, from July 7 to October 5, 2025. This is the first time the Rencontres d’Arles has showcased Australia at a regional level. Curated by Elias Redstone, Founder and Artistic Director of PHOTO Australia, and guest curated by Kimberley Moulton (Yorta Yorta), alongside PHOTO Australia curators Pippa Milne and Brendan McCleary, On Country: Photography from Australia showcases the depth and diversity of Australian photographic practice to new international audiences, bringing together the work of 17 Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and collectives. The exhibition features over 200 photographic works by established and emerging artists that document the seen and unseen aspects of being “on Country,” an embodied term for Australia’s First Peoples, who use it to describe the lands, waterways, seas, and cosmos to which they are connected.
