The Veil Law is now 40 years old. The law decriminalized abortion in France was passed at the National Assembly on December 20th, 1974, and implemented on January 17th, 1975. From the 18th-century pioneers like Olympe de Gouges to suffragettes of the early 20th century and the M.L.F. activists of the 1970s, the photographs in the Roger-Viollet collection evoke the important events and personalities of the struggle.
