The Aristos
My entire artistic approach is built around faces, “representations” of faces. I work on photographic portraits with a large number of specific populations (young incarcerated minors, elderly people in nursing homes, young people in foster care, etc.). In July 2025, I obtained a doctoral thesis in Art on my photographic practice. I examine the portrait through the experience of the face under the interaction of gazes during the photographic creative process. What does the movement of crossed gazes engender in reality in the photographic triangle of portraited/photographer/viewer? The interaction of the encounter gives rise in each of us to an experience of otherness.
I had the opportunity to carry out two artistic projects in 2024 and 2025 with the homeless people welcomed at the “Boutique Jeanne Antide,” a day shelter located in the Battant district of Besançon. People can eat, get warm, shower… My familiarity with the place over several years and repeated opportunities for meetings and exchanges allowed me to take photographs of the people in a portable studio set up on site, a relationship of trust having been established over time. An exhibition will take place at the community center in October 2025.
What I try to construct through all of my work are other ways of “en-visiting” ourselves. The act of envisaging, considering, and re-considering ourselves is at the heart of my artistic approach.
