MAP Toulouse 2017, under the banner of family stories

Preview

After Portrait(s) in 2015 and Une photographie française in 2016, the MAP Festival in Toulouse is devoting its 9th edition to Histoires de Familles (Family Stories). More than ever, young French artists will be honoured alongside the great names of contemporary photography.

Scouting young talent and giving exhibition space to renowned  artists, the MAP Photo Festival has become a key meeting place for photography. True to its spirit, the festival makes culture accessible to everyone by continuing to be completely free. Many events will be held in parallel with the exhibition: openings, lectures, screenings etc.

Following Elliott Erwitt, Raymond Depardon, Yuri Kozyrev, Martin Parr, Richard Dumas, Saul Leiter, Gérard Rondeau, and many others, this year the festival is presenting eighteen exhibitions by recognised artists. Among them: Yan Morvan with his series Blousons noirs, Julien Magre with Je n’ai plus peur du noir, Sylvie Meunier with Petit repas en famille, Axel Morin with Once upon a time in America, Manon Weiser with Sabotage familial, Olivier Jobard with Tu seras suédoise ma fille and Kotchok. Other notable guests: the Fisheye Gallery with Théo Gosselin and Maud Chalard, the Musée Nicéphore-Niépce with Histoire de l’album de famille, as well as the photo agencies, Noor Images which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and Myop , who will each present the work of several of their members. Not to be missed: the exhibition of the San Francisco punk world from 1975 to 1985 titled The Western Front by Stanley Green who passed away recently.

The MAP Festival also offers the opportunity for evolving amateur artists and photographers to show their work and make possible their future photographic projects thanks to the MAP Grants to the value of two thousand euros. The MAP 2017 Call for Artists was on the theme of family stories; the three award winners are to be introduced during this edition of the festival as well as Sandra Mehl, recipient of the Mentor Award 2016.
