“Night is not the opposite of day” surfaces do not simply turn from white to black: in reality these are not the same images.Paul Morand, preface to Brassaï’s Paris de nuit, Paris, Éditions Arts et Métiers Graphiques, 1933.
Galerie Roger-Viollet today inaugurates a new exhibition devoted to the night in the “City of Light”.
And so Paris, at night, is transformed, defying insomnia with ceaseless activity or joyfully preparing for a moment of celebration. This exhibition presents 70 numbered contemporary prints in limited edition, covering the period 1900–1970.
