The iconic Strand Bookstore on East 12th Street and Broadway in Greenwich Village has been a literary oasis for New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple since 1927. As a photographer of readers and an advocate for Books and independent bookstores, I have been visiting the Strand since 1972. While I have, now and then, photographed readers inside and outside the bookshop over a number of years (a few images appeared in The Art of Reading published by Steidl in 2018), I recently began collecting images of readers at the Strand bookstore with an emphasis on their style and transcendent fashion choices.
