Images Plurielles : Karimeh Abboud 1893–1940 : Lady Photographer : Images of Palestine

Preview

Images Plurielles publishes and exhibits Karimeh Abboud 1893–1940: Lady Photographer: Images of Palestine.

In 2006, a collection of postcards was discovered in an old house in Qatamon, a neighborhood of Jerusalem that was a prosperous Palestinian area before 1948. The postcards bear the stamp of their publisher: “Karimeh Abboud – Lady Photographer.”  Here we find traces of the first female photographer in Palestine and the Middle East, a find that piqued the interest of Ahmed Mrowat, a passionate scholar and researcher, who dedicated about ten years to collect photographs of this pioneer of photography in the Levant, as well as biographical informations about her.

The exhibition will close on February 10, 2026.
The “Côté galerie” gallery is located on the first floor of the Maupetit bookstore at 142 La Canebière, 13001 Marseille.
