(The title of the series is a tribute to filmmaker Rithy Panh’s masterpiece “The Missing Picture”)
The inspiration for these series begins with a Cambodian tradition associating each day of the week with a specific color. I soaked in that spectrum, and deliver my radically subjective vision of the country in 7 chimerical portraits, like as many monochrome layers, decomposing /recomposing a global narrative. The vision would not be complete without the 8th day, symbolizing the Khmer Rouge mass murders, which have been casting their long black and white shadows on everyone and everything in Cambodia since the late 1970s…
