Join veteran National Geographic photographer Gerd Ludwig in Nagasaki, Japan, for a 13-day workshop focused on developing your voice as a visual storyteller.
Dates: September 27th to October 9th, 2026 Limited to 8 participants (minimum 6)
The workshop unfolds in two parts. The first begins online, with one portfolio review session and two instructional classes held about ten days before traveling. The second is an in-person experience in Nagasaki, where participants will spend nine days working on a self-directed project. Gerd will provide support through field guidance and regular check-ins. Dedicated time will be set aside for editing, sequencing, and reviewing your work. The final day and a half will be used for presentations and feedback on each participant’s completed series.
Participants can choose between two plans. The Full plan includes workshop instruction, arranged domestic flights and hotels. The Lite plan offers workshop access only, allowing participants to arrange their lodging and travel independently
Nagasaki offers a thoughtful setting for this kind of work. With its layered history and quiet presence, it invites participants to explore how context, culture, and rhythm shape the stories we tell through photographs.
With only eight participants, the workshop offers close mentorship and space for meaningful progress. Hosted and organized by Nobechi Creative, this experience is intended for photographers looking to push their practice forward and come away with a refined, intentional body of work.
