The Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues (Oh there ain’t no cure for acute schizophrenia disease)
At first glance, this autobiographical project – which I’ve titled after a Kinks song « The Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues (Oh there ain’t no cure for acute schizophrenia disease) » – looks like a funny series, but it’s actually a serious introspective essay. Ron Padgett, the great American poet (and friend) who has seen some of these images, has also noticed their sad side.
Staging oneself is not a new concept, but unlike other photographers – the list is long – who use sophisticated sets and big means, I chose to use images found on the internet (and have something metaphorically to do with my life) to embed myself in. One day I showed these images to a psychiatrist who has his practice in the building where I live and I asked him if he could draw any conclusions from them. There was a long silence, after which he replied, « I think it’s better not to know, but if you really want to know, I can consult you, as a service between neighbors. »
