Berlin : Skinning, Une histoire de peau

Preview

The skin is our greatest sense organ, it keeps us one. We make different stimuli and if they are intense enough, they create a feeling, which then runs through every single layer and proverbially “gets under the skin“. In most cases these sensations leave traces and emerging from that, they create experiences, which finally turn into memories. Photography is one way to preserve memories in a picture and make them visible for others.

For their exhibition “Skinning” Exp12’s photographers have intensely dealt with those things they are personally touched by. In the time of fast moving everyday life, one hardly finds him/herself actually looking beneath the surface, close enough to examine the different layers of a society, a personality, a landscape or an urban area in detail. The exhibition itself represents different perspectives and therefore manages to create a patchwork kind of “landscape” of different topics, which the photographers are emphatically immersed in. Selected works offer a panoramic insight to contemporary social constellations.

Skinning is a story about yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow‘s people and places. Every work forms its own chapter in the exhibition, holding notes about how others and the photographers themselves feel in their own skin and surrounding. Based on true facts.
