William Klein Academie des Beaux Arts Photography Award 2023 : Graciela Iturbide

Graciela Iturbide is the winner of the third edition of the William Klein Academie des Beaux Arts Photography Award, after Raghu Rai in 2019 and Annie Leibovitz in 2021.

Consecration prize created in 2019 by the Academy of Fine Arts with the support of the Chengdu Contemporary Image Museum, in homage to the work of William Klein (1926-2022), this prize is endowed with an amount of €120,000 and rewards a photographer of any nationality and age for their entire career and their commitment to photography.

The 2023 winner, Graciela Iturbide, is a photography icon, particularly famous for her portraits of the Seri Indians of the Sonoran Desert, the women of Juchitán, as well as her photographic projects dedicated to the communities and ancestral traditions of Mexico. Since the 1970s, she has created images that navigate between a documentary approach and a poetic sensitivity, paying particular attention to landscapes and objects.
