THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER OF 2026, Caroline Hayeur is presenting a new series of photographic and video works at the Maison de la culture Claude-Léveillée.
NIGHT-TIME LIFE. When the doors of the Montreal Insectarium close for the night, what do the insects that have made their home there get up to? Some hide in a flower, a tree trunk or a shelter; many are busy feeding or mating, whilst others gather together to sleep.
WITH HER APPROACH, which is both documentary and poetic, the artist draws us into a black-and-white choreography of hexapods*, culminating in the emergence of chrysalises. The body of work in the exhibition represents a celebration of entomophilia** through an intimate glimpse into the lives of the nocturnal*** inhabitants of the Montreal Insectarium. The exhibition’s soundscape is created by the artist Myléna Bergeron.
CONTEXT. Building on the momentum of her last two black-and-white projects (Radioscopie du dormeur and Un Jardin la nuit), Caroline Hayeur – winner of the research residency programme initiated by the Montreal Insectarium and the Conseil des arts de Montréal continues her exploration of infrared photography.
