As part of the first edition of the Ecla Artists in Residence Award, UXCO Group and MyFUJIFILM France awarded the prize to Islem Haouati, a French-Algerian artist and author based in Paris.
This call for projects, launched in June 2025 by UXCO Group and MyFUJIFILM, aims to support emerging contemporary photographic creation through a one- to two-month stay in the three Ecla residencies located in the Île-de-France region, giving an artist the opportunity to create and share their world within the Ecla residencies.
Born in Blida, Algeria, and a graduate of the European School of Art in Brittany, Islem develops a practice combining photography, video, installation, and drawing. His work invites us to give voice to silences and reveal the discreet beauty of existence. In 2025, he will present “De toutes les luttes” (Of All Struggles) at the Mamia Bretesché gallery in Arles and participate in an international festival in Brazil.
His works created during the Ecla residency will be exhibited starting in 2026, notably at Ecla Genève Archamps, and published in a new book accompanied by a text by Norbert Hillaire, art and media theorist.
UXCO Group is delighted to give young artists the opportunity to enhance the Ecla residencies and reveal their full soul through art. Congratulations to Islem Haouati, and see you in 2026 to discover his creations! In the meantime, check out his Instagram to see his photographs.
