Mending Wings
This body of work “Mending Wings” hopefully captures a glimpse of the honesty and seriousness of young women’s mental health challenges in today’s society.
I created these images as a reflective conversation brought on by the negative effects that social media has had on today’s youth.
This conversation expanded with the “Me Too” movement, which empowered women to speak up and at the same time exposed the trauma so many women have been experiencing for so long.
Currently we are inundated with “The Epstein Files”, again showing the world the abuse of young women over decades and slowly exposing the power-driven men who caused these horrific acts.
I was raised by a single mother along with my two older sisters.
My father left when I was five years old. My mother suffered from depression and addiction and my eldest sister had bipolar disorder and addiction issues. At a very young age, I became very sensitive to and at times overwhelmed by the mental health and well-being of the women in my life.
On November 1, 2023 my sister committed suicide in a roadside motel room; four months later my mother who suffered from severe dementia finally took her last breath. They are both now at peace.
