The Lifesaving Machines by Reiner Riedler, at Sous Les Etoiles Gallery, New York

Preview
Though separated from their place of use and human counterparts, the historical and modern medical equipment depicted in Reiner Riedler‘s The Lifesaving Machines are hardly neutralized. Instead these apparatuses, on which so much depends, appear human-like, beautiful, and, fittingly, powerful. The series, first inspired following a late night the photographer spent in a neonatal intensive care unit after the birth of his son, shows them in a new light, casting off clinical aspects and revealing a profound warmth.

Since 1989, the work of photographer Reiner Riedler has centered on human beings and their environment. The main focus of his documentary work is to challenge our value systems. His recent conceptual works deal with themes of transience, crises and death.
