The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the exhibition Campbell Addy: The Stillness of Elegance at SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta. Marking the British Ghanaian artist’s first institutional solo show in the U.S., The Stillness of Elegance presents more than 50 images from Addy’s vast catalog of fashion photography and portraiture.
Addy has ascended as one of the foremost fashion and culture photographers of his generation, heralded for striking and poignant images that transcend genres while engaging intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality. The Stillness of Elegance highlights Addy’s dynamic exploration of personal intimacy, creative connection, and world-building, displaying images and portraits featured in i-D, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Dazed, New York Magazine, British Vogue, and the artist’s own publication, NiiJournal. Cultural icons shown through Addy’s singular lens include Naomi Campbell, Lizzo, Meghan Markle, Lewis Hamilton, Zoë Kravitz, Tyler, The Creator, and more. The exhibition will also feature moving images and video footage from Addy’s noted photography shoots, providing an intimate look behind the scenes of the artist’s process and expertise.
“The Stillness of Elegance presents the deeply personal moments across my development as a photographer and artist that inform my approach to subject, authorship, and broader visual practice. This exhibition chronicles the journey of discovery I have made in reflecting intimacies and building connections that ultimately bring the faces of my works to life. I hope my works on display at SCAD FASH inspire students to find their own individualism through encounters with people, places, looks, and imaginaries. To me, the stillness of elegance is that unique perspective that will show the beauty in co- creation and mutual progression.”
