Sam Dobrow – We Are Not Alone, Surreal Worlds

Preview
I’ve always had this belief that we are not alone in this universe. I’ve felt that there are distant worlds similar to our own but not quite the same. These worlds may be light years away or perhaps coexisting with us in a different dimension. My surreal works are meant to portray these worlds. The camera is my eye into these worlds. For me, the art of photography begins with a feeling, followed by seeing through the camera with anticipation, and ultimately developing an image that speaks to that feeling.
My works are influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Jerry Ulesmann. Van Gogh’s color pallets and starry skies are common elements, Dali’s melted landscapes inspire the surreal architecture and Ulesmann’s paradoxical constructs inspire my depiction of mythical characters.
