Alexa Brunet

Utopic Théâtre – SAIF 2021 Award, with the Houlgate “Les femmes s’exposent” festival From March to May 2020, Arte asked Alexa Brunet, as well as 6 other photographers, to send a series of images and of recordings of their lockdown for Letters from Photographers posted online every week.

“I live in the countryside but rarely have time to enjoy it. The confinement prompted me to sit down and observe my surroundings. I took advantage of this spatio-temporal bubble to transcend our daily lives and invent stories with the family. To go beyond situations like home schooling, having a birthday party without friends, or caused by conflicting feelings of paranoia and extreme freedom. The staging, fueled by our common ideas, became a pretext for deceiving boredom, playing, portraying a character, laughing, and allowing us to escape the monotony. By tapping into our imaginations, often inspired by children’s tales, we transformed our living space into a small utopian theater, far from the rumors of the world. ”

Alexa Brunet, born in 1977, graduated from Art College Belfast and ENSP Arles.

She has been part of the Transit collective since 2004. Her work has received numerous awards and she is regularly invited to exhibit and participate in residencies in France and abroad (Rencontres d’Arles, L’été photographique de Niort, Diaphane , CNAP documentary grant). She has published the books POST, ex-Yugoslavia, Dystopia and Abrégé des secrets for Le Bec en l’air, Habitants Atypiques for Images en Maneuvers and En Somme for Diaphane editions.
