Zaolane works with “6 hands.” Well aware that we’re shaking up the codes a little, we’re proud to introduce Zaolane. Behind Zaolane are three strong personalities with complementary professional skills: a photographer, a 3D graphic designer, and a digital retoucher. It’s the story of three young women who graduated in 2008 in the Photography and Post-Production specialties at Gobelins, l’école de l’image.
After developing our individual careers, we set out to work with “6 hands,” creating the Zaolane collective in late 2010. The approach is personal, and so are the means. What drives Zaolane is the purpose of the image and getting messages across with humor and a certain distance. The clash of our three personalities and the combination of our knowledge gives us the opportunity to reach an image quality well beyond what any one person could produce alone. But everything is decided together, the three of us, from the birth of the idea to the final print.
Sharing a passion for photography, we use today’s nearly limitless digital tools, not to put on a technical display, but to put them at the service of the image, drawing on them as subtly as possible. We stand by teamwork, each of our individual creativity, and the added value each of us brings, as Zaolane.
Who is behind Zaolane?
– Paola Guigou-
An independent photographer, Paola Guigou works in portraiture and staged scenes. She graduated from the Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg in 2006 and from the Ecole des Gobelins in 2008. She has won several awards (the Broncolor student prize for fashion photography, 1st prize in the CCIP competition in 2008). In her photography, Paola Guigou seeks out atypical models and charismatic figures. Drawing on very strong visual worlds, her images feel timeless. Paola believes that one is never truly the sole author of an image, which is why she doesn’t hesitate to team up with other talents.
– Elizabeth Sillard –
A graduate of the Conservatoire de théâtre de Poitiers in 2003 and of Gobelins, l’Ecole de l’image, in the retouching and image processing program, in 2008, Elizabeth was hired by Dreamworks as a Texture Artist on Merry Madagascar, a Christmas featurette. Back in Paris in 2009, she alternates between freelance work as a CG Artist for print, projects within the Zaolane collective (“Portraits d’Archives”), and collaborations with various photographers (“War Game”). Passionate about staging and scene-setting, her images are the result of a convergence of talents, ideas, and creative and image-processing technology. Elizabeth currently works independently in 3D.
– Viviane Korkmaz –
Passionate about photography from an early age, Viviane pursued a vocational Photography degree. A 2008 graduate of Gobelins, l’Ecole de l’image, in the retouching and image processing program, she was hired directly by “La Souris sur le Gâteau” in Paris, and currently works at “Manufacture de Paris.” For her, Photoshop is an endless playground that lets her push images even further by adding her personal touch. The combination of talents, the clash of ideas, and group emulation are, for Viviane, the essential ingredients of a successful image.
