quand les fleurs nous sauvent : les saisons de maia flore

Preview

The exhibition « les saisons de maia flore by quand les fleurs nous sauvent » invites you to go through a year of photographic poetry to the rhythm of the artist’s sensitivity.

The works presented for sale, produced over the past ten years, highlight the artist’s intimate connection with nature in general, if not with flowers in particular. Always staged in her somewhat surrealist compositions, and often tinged with humor, she rarely exposes her face, to let the viewer penetrate in the built spaces: “I create visual intimacy with the landscapes that have been found. in nature  linked with the forms of our human body ”. Maia Flore’s body, in contact with nature, then becomes a universal ideogram which allows everyone to experience their own feelings … there, a breeze is gently felt, here the contact of a tree or of a flowerbed reminds us of how alive we are.

Alongside her photos, the gallery also presents preparatory drawings by the artist, unique copies that provide a better understanding of her creative process.

Maia Flore was born in France in 1988, and moved to California in 2018. She won the HSBC Prize for Photography in 2016 and her work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions since then.

As a punctuation to the works of Maia Flore, the remarkable series of English engravings “Twelve months of flowers”, a joint work of the artist Pieter Casteels, the engraver Henry Fletcher and the nurseryman Robert Furber, will be exhibited in an edition of The Dietz Press ( circa 1930). This famous set, which covers every month of the year, consists of a series of spectacular seasonal bouquets. It was considered the first commercial horticultural catalog in its original edition of 1731.

For this new opus, Muriel Fagnoni and Julia Gai therefore choose to reconnect with the telescoping of eras, dear to their style of curation, but above all to meet Maia Flore again, already exhibited for the first edition of When Flowers Save Us, for the incredible breath of fresh air that her visual language imbued with dreams provide in a time constrained and confined.

The visits will take place in full compliance with the sanitary measures in force on the date of opening, and in any case, mask and hydro-alcoholic gel mandatory at the entrance.
