Each year, one of the most original photography competitions takes place at night in Deauville: the 25th Hour Photo Contest, supported by Longines.
The event invites both professional and amateur photographers to roam the city and capture Deauville as the clocks shift to winter time. Between midnight and one o’clock in the morning, participants work on an open theme, allowing each photographer to offer their own interpretation of this nocturnal interlude.
This year, 226 participants — a record — gathered on the 25th of October at midnight on the forecourt of Les Franciscaines for the start of the competition. The turnout reflected the growing popularity of this event within the local cultural scene, as well as the establishment of a truly unique photography contest within a national, if not international, landscape already rich in prizes and awards.
The digital files were submitted during the night, then all the images were printed by Initial Labo and displayed on Sunday morning in the cloister of Les Franciscaines. Participants were able to discover their photograph presented alongside the work of other entrants before the jury, chaired by former Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak, reviewed the images and announced the winners.
The prize winners of this edition are:
- 1st Prize: Naïade Plante
- 2nd Prize: Steve Perchey
- 3rd Prize: Yvonne Foerster
The awards granted are as follows: a Longines Prima Luna watch for the first prize; a round-trip ticket from Paris to New York for two people for the second prize; and a weekend in Deauville for two, including one night at the Normandy Barrière, for the third prize.
