The silence before the name
I photograph ordinary objects to the point where they cease to be recognisable. Before they are named, things experience a moment of silence: they are no longer objects, but merely surfaces, volumes, light and shadow.
This series explores that moment when the gaze hesitates. Deprived of its points of reference, the eye searches, imagines and formulates hypotheses, oscillating between abstraction and figuration.
Gradually, clues emerge. Recognition sets in gradually, until doubt is dispelled. Yet the revelation does not mark the end of the journey: it invites us to return to the previous images and view them in a different light.
