Sabine Weiss is celebrating her 92nd birthday on July 23rd. Her work is being given a place of honour in the spring with several exhibitions in France and the publication of a book by La Martinière on June 16th. The gallery Les Douches is offering the public a selection of prints by the Swiss photographer, images made during many trips to the four corners of the world. This editorial choice was intended to show a vision less well-known and less expected than the one we usually know from this artist.
Françoise Morin introduces this new exhibition with these words: “It would be presumptuous of us to claim to give an exhaustive view of Sabine Weiss in this first personal exhibition that Les Douches is devoting to her. In fact, since 1942, Sabine Weiss’ work has never ceased to expand. She has tackled all the genres, without exclusion.
Also, we would rather make every effort to put forward some aspects of the less well-known sides of her personality. We went to look for them in New York and wherever her eye surprised us.
A woman who cannot be categorised and is fiercely independent, passionate about painting, Sabine Weiss is always there when you don’t expect her.”
