Paris : Olga Itygilova, Hidden World

Preview
Loo & Lou Gallery presents for the first time the work of photographer  Olga Itygilova , born in Siberia and based in Paris for the last twenty years.  The exhibition “Hidden World” presents a selection of fifteen photographs selected from work  on  water.
Olga Itygilova grew up in Siberia near Lake Baikal, birthplace of shamanism, in the heart of a wild nature sheltering a hidden world.  “I come from a country where a parallel world of spirits is familiar to us.  We live with them.  It’s normal life!” she says.
During her childhood spent in the great outdoors, Olga explored nature in all its facets, notably in summer when she would fly over the plains of the tundra and taiga in a helicopter with her parents.
At the age of 12, she learned black and white photography.  This was during the Soviet Era when color printing was expensive.  Her professor taught his students to develop their own style.
Olga left her native country when she turned 22 to move to Paris and work in the world of fashion.  At the same time, she continued to pursue photography  with  a very diverse production.

Through the series “Hidden World”, the artist undertakes a personal project on landscapes, seeking to eliminate the borders between photography and painting.  For this project, she rediscovers the sensation of awe felt during her childhood in the contemplation of nature.   During her excursions, she captured the reflections of the water’s surface, the curve of a shoreline, the surge of a sea-spray.
