The Authentic Heart of the Murge

The Murge preserve the traces of a pastoral life that seems suspended in time. The sheep, wrapped in the silence of a barren land, evoke images of ancient “iazzi,” shelters where, once, they found rest during long journeys. In this remote corner, there are still those who, following ancient traditions, care for sheep and goats: the shepherds. Alongside them, the Maremma sheepdogs, loyal guardians, defend the flock and guide their steps along paths shaped by wind, rain, and sun.

Among the stony expanses, the wild vegetation adds a poetic touch to the landscape: thorny shrubs, resembling crosses crowned with thorns, stand as sentinels of the land, exuding a rugged and mysterious charm. The Murge are a place where the past breathes into the present, in a fragile balance that calls for protection. Walking through these vast stretches, you might spot a flock in the distance and think they are stones embedded in the landscape. Only their slow movement, accompanied by bleating and the gentle tinkling of bells, would reveal the enchantment of a living optical illusion.
