Matthew McKee, The Sweet Blast! To Start The Conversation

Preview

The Sweet Blast! series germinated during an afternoon browsing through a magazine. One page featured a full page ad using a beauty image of a lemon as its subject. A few pages later, there was public service ad that featured a hand grenade.

By the time I had finished the magazine, the two images had fused in my subconsious and became Lemon Delight!

Within our movement through our society, and the world, there exists such potential for amazingly beneficial results and tragically horrible results. Often, both of these outcomes are observably created by the same human generated event.

We are at a cross roads, as, indeed, we always have been. Nature has grown up around us, despite us, in spite of us, and, even, because of us. Our metaphorical fuse has formed it and given it structure, even as it finds its own way around our best intentions.

While depicting the potential of high explosives, the series is not meant to be anti- or pro- anything. It is a representation of my own apprehensions of the effects we – I – have on the world we exist in, move through, and change, on purpose and accidentally.

Sweet Blast! images feature bright colors and simple shapes that are a juxtaposition of the chaotic “natural” state over the ordered “commercialized”  state that is attempted by the hand of man.

If the pin is pulled, it will destroy the fruit. But, the fruit is only the transportation system for the seed, which is designed to be distributed, often violently, to propagate new life.

What are we creating?
