Everyone was presented with the same request: to recite a passage of a book they like. That way “the unfolding words were woven”, words that might well have been a reflection of oneself, of the person in the portrait, and maybe their echo will inspire people to reciprocate and express themselves.
While creating the series of portraits, a wink was given to the “act of reading”. In the course of my wanderings I provided an element of surprise with these literary moments, however short-lived or passionate. I was always on the lookout for a certain atmosphere in public and private places, with man, his habits and behaviours taking centre stage. May this generous adventure nurture curiosity and reflection and give people an appetite for words and the pleasure of reading. If this book succeeds in doing just that, I will be a happy man.
