We continue and present the projects selected by Les Nuits Photographiques 2015 awards, which took place on September 19th. Today is about “Frozen Park“, directed by Julie Meyer, french photographer.
The Frozen Park project began in the winter of 2010-2011 as a result of photographs taken within the walls of the former East Berlin amusement park: The Spreepark. The images take inventory of the site ten years after its closing down. It reveals a succession of attractions in ruins: a large dinosaur resting on its side, the Grand Canyon waterway bed invaded by ivy, a pirate ship trapped in the ice after a shipwreck. The attractions are left in a state of ruin.
This photographic ensemble is presented in the form of a video whose soundtrack was produced after a meeting between Julie Meyer and Sabrina Witte, the daughter of the former Spreepark manager. Wandering amidst the attractions in ruin, her childhood memories mingle with the tragic history of her family. The text of the soundtrack brings together fragments of her testimony and proposes a new writing of her past.
