Srebrenica became a symbol of Serbian barbarism as well showing the futility of the United Nations trying to stop a genocide in a so-called “protected” zone, the city of Srebrenica  lived for 20 years under the generous infusions of NGOs. International aid programs have enabled the return of inhabitants, the reopening of a few factories and the construction of a brand new supermarket in the middle of the buildings disfigured by mortar fire.
Living in Srebrenica is to experience this indefinable time that is post-war. If everyone knows when began this ‘after’, who can say when it will end? Wandering in this space where testimonies of times of horror and of peace cohabit, a question emerges: “Is there an end to the end of the war? ”
By discussing with local youth, we sense that the night of their history has never really lifted.  The trauma is still very present in survivors, scars are still exposed on the facades.

Swen Renault was born in Arles in 1990. He studies currently at Ecole Nationale supérieure de la Photographie in Arles.
