Les Femmes s’exposent – The 8th edition of the exhibition focuses on identity, memory and transmission

Preview

The LES FEMMES S’EXPOSENT festival unveils the programme for its eighth edition, which opens in Houlgate, Normandy, on 6 June.
The press weekend with the photographers will take place on 6, 7 and 8 June.

‘This eighth edition of the LES FEMMES S’EXPOSENT Festival has strong themes running through it: belonging, identity, memory, transmission. These are subjects that resonate powerfully today, and in which images are becoming a battleground for representations, while certain narratives are being distorted or even erased, and landmarks seem to be wavering.
Our photographers don’t give up. They look the world straight in the eye. They take us on a journey from Greenland to Pakistan, via California, Lake Kivu, the United States, the lagoons of Polynesia… They document pain as well as beauty. They tell of climatic tragedies, forgotten conflicts and systemic injustices, but also of acts of resilience, the strength of tradition and collective rebirth. They delve into intimate pasts, exploring roots. They tell, they show, sentinels who give up nothing. And neither are we.

Béatrice Tupin,
Founder of the festival
