Open Nights

” Slip beneath the skin of the night. Follow the tracks, the trails, the signs. Sharpen one’s senses. Call upon eyes other than my own. Set up these magical boxes—cameras sensitive to movement, heat, and vibrations. Season after season, connect with the spaces and beings of the night. Night as a symbol. Of darkness, of the unconscious, of death. Night as a place of the indeterminate. Where the rational, the analytical, the speakable disappear. Realizing that in the folds of the night, tomorrow is taking shape.
“Open” Nights. Toward the other, toward otherness, sometimes radical. Like an invitation to take root in a broader, vaster dimension. To step outside the binary of “visible/invisible,” “human/non-human,” “living/dead” (…). To broaden our horizons. To embrace our interdependence. To grasp what unites us deeply and mysteriously. From an ecofeminist perspective, to reject the supremacy of the human species and embrace philosophies that view what we call “Nature” not as forms separate from one another, but rather as a flow of relationships.
The work with images is conceived as a spell. An incantation to “transform the threat of disappearance into a promise of metamorphosis”*. Seeking the colors of the earth. Gold, silver, oxidized greens, ochres, reds, clays, coppers. Erosion, weathering, substrates. Like fragments of the forces that unite us.
Open nights, where we can allow ourselves every dance.
