L’Artiere is publishing Adam by Theo Zeal.
A psychologically charged photobook developed over four years during the artist’s experience with Lyme disease. The work follows Zeal’s lifelong friend Adam as he forages across the Isle of Mull, transforming acts of walking and observation into a way of navigating illness, disorientation, and altered perception.
Blurring documentary and constructed image-making, the project combines rural Scottish landscapes with industrial estuaries in South East England. Zeal employs improvised darkroom techniques — including caffenol development and expired photographic papers producing unstable, eroded images that foreground materiality and fragility.
Conceived as a “found” object, Adam explores friendship, perception, illness, and the instability of memory.
