Kiss of Death is a very touching book from Komma Publishers, which the Dutch photographer Berber Theunissen has just sent us. It is accompanied by the following text:
My name is Berber Theunissen, a photographer from the Netherlands. I would like to introduce you to my first photo book, Kiss of Death.
Three years ago, life hit us hard. My daughter was six months old when my husband, then 35, was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma.
“Choose quality over quantity,” in other words: “You have metastatic cancer, and you’re going to die.” All struggles from before instantly faded into the background. Everything revolved around this (not yet) death sentence.
I have always photographed my life. From travelling, to my transition into motherhood, and therefore also the cancer diagnosis and its impact on me and our young family. This work has come together in the book Kiss of Death. It has become a personal and intimate photo book with universal themes such as travel, motherhood, a cancer diagnosis, and depression.
