Far from Human

My artistic practice is shaped by the mountains. From the towering peaks to the serene valleys traced between them, my fascination with this environment has been forged in the French Alps and their frontiers, inspiring this collection of photos. Shot over the course of 4 years, the images take us on a voyage not only of the ascent and descent of these majestic summits, but of the intense cycles of transformation they go through.
Entitled Far from Men, the series embodies a setting free from the influence of mankind. Looking at the mountains not through the lens of human achievement — of summits to be conquered or as the playing field for man’s exploits — but instead seeing them as the true focus of the image. The grand structures become the stage upon which the metamorphoses unfold, highlighting the gradual but inevitable movements of nature; a terrain where man is not all powerful, where the land itself controls the narrative.
At the heart of my photographic approach is a desire to have a different relationship with time. In contrast to today’s world of instant gratification and technological speed, my practice is rooted in a slower, more deliberate process. Working in medium format film, I embrace a method that requires patience, allowing me to develop a deeper, more thoughtful relationship with my surroundings. This intimacy with the landscape enables my photos to go beyond traditional documentation, offering an artistic interpretation of the world I capture. These images highlight the pictorial beauty of the landforms, often resembling the delicate texture of a graphite drawing or the soft washes of a watercolor painting. Through my lens, the mountains become a canvas where the natural world paints its own portrait.
