Jaeger Art – Reinbeckhallen : Evelyn Bencicova

Preview

Evelyn Bencicova is exhibiting in two Berlin galleries for Photography Month : Jaeger Art and Reinbeckhallen.

Evelyn Bencicova (*1992) is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of photography, video, and virtual reality. Her meticulously composed works explore themes of identity, memory, and the complex relationship between the individual and society. Through a distinctive aesthetic—marked by cool, muted tones—she creates a sense of distance and artificiality, reinforcing the themes of isolation and surveillance that pervade her work.

Two parallel exhibitions in Berlin showcase different facets of Bencicova’s artistic practice presented as part of EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography 2025.

ASYMPTOTE at Jaeger Art

The series Asymptote (2016), exhibited in Germany for the first time, delves into the alienation of individuals in a world shaped by surveillance and control. Examining the architecture of the communist era, Bencicova reflects on its ideological implications and the tension between uniformity and the desire for individuality.

Drawing inspiration from the visual language of communist-era architecture, Bencicova captures an atmosphere of discipline and anonymity, where individuals appear trapped within a highly regulated world. The repeated patterns of bodies, architectural forms, and muted color palettes emphasize themes of surveillance and depersonalization, prompting viewers to question the balance between individuality and societal pressure.

While the imagery of Asymptote recalls historical references, it also resonates with contemporary concerns about authoritarian control, mass surveillance, and the psychological effects of living in an increasingly regulated world. By blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality, Bencicova invites the viewer to reflect on their own place within these systems of power.

IMMERSION at Reinbeckhallen

Developed in collaboration with Stiftung Reinbeckhallen, Immersion expands on Bencicova’s themes, spanning photography, audiovisual installations, and VR experiences. Her works from 2016 to 2025 engage with postmodern theory, feminist studies, and the interplay between humans and machines, referencing thinkers such as Jean Baudrillard and Donna Haraway. Immersion runs concurrently with Asymptote, offering a broader perspective on Bencicova’s evolving artistic language.
