Hors Saison

When the vacationers depart, the landscapes breathe again.

Far from the summer bustle, the beaches reveal themselves in a new light. Between silence and scattered traces of a vanished crowd, “Off-Season” explores these suspended moments where emptiness becomes substance, and absence, subject.
Through a series of images taken by the sea, I focus on these transitional places, out of sync with the tourist rhythm. The sand seems more expansive, the objects—beach huts, parasols, barriers, lifeguard towers—become the last witnesses of a withdrawn human activity. These are contemporary vestiges, frozen in harsh light or softened by the gray sky, that tell another story of the coastline.
My approach is both documentary and poetic. Each photograph questions our relationship to time, to waiting, to the memory of places. What remains once the tumult has passed? Can we still discern scenes of life amidst the apparent calm? Our gaze then shifts, becoming attentive to details, contrasts, and the geometry of human settlements juxtaposed with the constancy of the landscape.

“Off-Season” invites us to rediscover the shoreline from a different, more introspective, almost meditative perspective. Far from the cliché of the bustling beach, this series reveals the unseen aspects of summer, in all its discreet melancholy and silent beauty.

“Off-Season” is the moment when space reverts to landscape. Closed beach huts, abandoned parasols, empty shelters, and frozen lifeguard structures compose an almost theatrical scene where humanity, often absent, leaves discreet yet eloquent traces. Each photograph captures this pivotal moment, where places transform into strangely familiar settings, imbued with the memory of past visits.

This series was produced between 2008 and 2025 on the French coast, but also in Tunisia, Italy, California and on the island of Reunion.
